What does it mean to learn Reiki?
Learning Reiki is not about memorizing techniques or becoming someone new.
It is about returning to yourself — learning how to listen, how to be present, and how to work gently with the natural energy of life that is already moving through you.
Reiki is a practice. One that begins with self-awareness and self-care, and gradually becomes something you carry into everyday life.
In traditional Usui Reiki, learning happens through experience.
You learn by practicing, by observing subtle changes within yourself, and by developing trust in simplicity rather than effort.
There is no requirement to “believe” in Reiki.
Only a willingness to show up, practice regularly, and remain open to learning.
At Japan Reiki Studio, Reiki is taught as it has been practiced in Japan for generations — quietly, respectfully, and with depth.
It is not rushed. It is not layered with unnecessary complexity.
Each level builds on the previous one, allowing your understanding and relationship with Reiki to unfold naturally over time.
Your Reiki Journey, Step by Step
Reiki is not a one-time course.
It is a path of learning that unfolds gradually, as your understanding deepens and your relationship with Reiki matures.
At Japan Reiki Studio, we are transparent about this journey from the very beginning — so you always know where you are, what comes next, and what is not required of you.
All Reiki training at Japan Reiki Studio begins with Usui Reiki Level 1.
Further levels are available to students who continue their journey with us, step by step, with practice, integration, and support.
Reiki Level 1
Self-Healing
Learn how to care for your own body, mind, and energy.
You’ll practice hands-on Reiki for yourself, understand how the energy of the universe flows, and discover simple ways to bring calm into your everyday life.
Reiki Level 2
Supporting Others
Once your own cup is filling, we turn to sharing Reiki with others—family, friends, and clients.
You’ll learn distance Reiki, how to offer sessions safely and respectfully, and how to hold space for someone’s healing.
Reiki Level 3
Becoming the Practice
Level 3 is not about “doing more.” It’s about being. Here, the focus shifts from technique to presence.
You deepen your connection with Reiki, refine your sensitivity, and become a steady light for others.
Professional Reiki Path (Options)
For students who wish to integrate Reiki more deeply in to their personal or professional life.
This path supports refinement, responsibility, and clarity of practice — without requiring students to become teachers.
Teacher Training
Teacher training is available by invitation and application.
It is for students who feel called to teach Reiki in the traditional way and are ready to hold that responsibility with integrity.
Usui Reiki Level 1
Learn to heal the SELF
Pre-requisite: willingness to learn and practice Reiki on a daily basis.
Learn the foundations of Usui Reiki as taught by the Japan Reiki Association
Practice a full self-healing session using the standard hand positions
Begin to release stress and tension stored in the body
Build a simple daily self-healing rhythm that fits your real life
Experience how “me first” care helps you show up better for others
Reiki Level 1 is where your journey begins. This level is for anyone who feels called to care for their own energy—whether you’re completely new to Reiki or have only experienced it as a client.
You’ll learn how to give Reiki to yourself using the basic hand positions, and how to notice the subtle ways your body and mind respond when you receive Reiki regularly.
Investment: $700 CAD (plus HST)
Usui Reiki Level 2
Learn to heal OTHERS
Pre-requisite: Usui Reiki Level 1 with JRA
Learn how to offer Reiki safely and respectfully to other people
Practice giving sessions to partners or classmates with guidance
Learn distance Reiki so you can send Reiki beyond time and space
Explore how to hold space without absorbing other people’s emotions
Understand the basic structure of a Reiki session and post-session care
Reiki Level 2 is for students who have completed Level 1 and are practicing regularly. In this level, your focus gently expands from caring for yourself to supporting others—family, friends, and eventually clients.
You’ll also learn how to send distance Reiki, so your support is not limited by time or location.
Investment: $900 CAD (plus HST)
Usui Reiki Level 1 & 2
Learn to heal the Self & OTHERS
Recommended for:
Reiki practitioners trained elsewhere, students travelling from afar, or those comfortable with an intensive learning pace.
Day One – Level 1 foundations: self-healing & daily practice
Day Two – Level 2 teachings: offering Reiki safely to others
Support & integration
3 weeks of guided support for Level 1 integration
3 weeks of guided support for Level 2 practice
Ongoing guidance as long as you continue practicing

Usui Reiki Level 3
Learn to BE the REIKI
Pre-requisite: Usui Reiki Level 2 with JRA
Deepen your connection with Reiki and refine your sensitivity
Explore what it means to be a “Reiki presence” in daily life
Small group learning with space for personal reflection
Invitation-only path to teacher training after an interview
Reiki Level 3 is for students who have completed Levels 1 and 2, are practicing regularly, and feel called to go deeper.
This is where Reiki becomes less about “doing sessions” and more about how you live, make choices, and show up in the world—as a steady, compassionate presence.
Investment: $1100 CAD (plus HST)
Professional Practice Path
Learn to Be & Do REIKI
Pre-requisite: Usui Reiki Level 3 with JRA
Designed for students who have completed Reiki Level 3
Will likely be offered as two levels (name to be finalized)
Part 1 – Online: foundations for professional practice, ethics, client care, communication, and session structure
Part 2 – In Person: hands-on refinement, presence, and practical application in a shared space
This training is not required in order to be considered for Teacher Training
After Reiki Level 3, some students feel called to offer Reiki sessions to the public in a more structured way.
We are currently developing a two-part training specifically for this path.
Teacher's Training
By application only
Pre-requisite: Usui Reiki Level 3 with JRA
Open to students who have completed Reiki Level 3 with the Japan Reiki Association
After at least six months of continued practice, you can express your interest and submit an application
Your application and ongoing practice help us decide whether you’re ready to sit for the exam now, or later
When you’re ready, you take the exam
Those who pass are invited into the JRA Teacher Training (Shihan) program
Teacher Training with the Japan Reiki Association (日本レイキ協会) is a separate, invitation-only path for Reiki Level 3 graduates who feel genuinely called to guide others.
Completing Level 3 does not automatically make you a teacher; we also honour how you practice over time, how you show up in community, and how you live Reiki in everyday life.

Learning does not end when the class does
Students at Japan Reiki Studio receive ongoing support beyond certification.

Our curriculum follows the same structure and philosophy taught in Japan
Students may continue their Reiki journey with other Japan Reiki Association certified teachers worldwide — in Japan, the U.S., or elsewhere — if life takes them there

No. Level 1 is designed for beginners and also works beautifully for people returning to Reiki. You’ll learn the foundations, self-healing practice, and how to integrate Reiki into daily life.
Yes. Japan Reiki Studio is the Canada chapter and our training follows the Japan Reiki Association approach.
Yes. Your Reiki education can travel with you. If life takes you elsewhere, you can continue your next level with another Japan Reiki Association certified teacher in Japan, the US, or other locations.
Classes are taught in a grounded, practical way with plenty of guided practice. We focus on both understanding and experience—so you leave feeling confident in your hands.
